2011
I’m not usually one who gets excited for New Year’s Eve. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll go out, spend time with friends, and reminisce, but it’s not usually a big thing to me. For whatever reason, New Year’s and St. Patrick’s Day are two “holidays” that I just don’t get all excited about. I’m not necessarily sentimental about particular years. I like to think that the previous year was pretty good but the next will be better. It would be a shame to look back and say, “2011 was alright, but it was nothing like 2001, that’s when I reached the top” or “Good riddance 2011, you can eat shit.” Granted, I’ve been incredibly fortunate and don’t have much to complain about, so that’s easy for me to say, but I sure hope the best years of my life are still in front of me. With that being said, 2011 was pretty damn awesome:
In August, I moved to one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen, San Francisco.
If that wasn’t great enough, I moved there because I got an amazing job opportunity with Apple. Something that I had dreamed about for quite some time.
All of that happened in August, so as a great farewell, Kammie and some friends threw me a surprise birthday/going away party on July 29th. Unquestionably, it was the best birthday I’ve ever had.
In October, Kammie and I took the trip of a lifetime to Malaysia. We traveled to a different world to see a family she had never met. South East Asia has always seemed too far, too different, and just too much to ever really visit. I couldn’t have picked a better time to go, or a better reason to have done it.
So far, within four months, July-October, I got a job with Apple, had a surprise going away birthday party, moved to San Francisco, and traveled to Malaysia. All pretty amazing things, and It’s hard to believe that I have yet to even mention the best part of 2011.
2012, you’ve got your work cut out for you.
