Option+Click in Photoshop will change your life.
Option+Clicking an open layer group in Photoshop will collapse that group, all sub-folders in that group and hide all layer effects for anything in that group.  Option+Clicking a closed layer group in Photoshop will open that group, all sub-folders in that group and expand all layer effects for anything in that group.
